Fall Happenings

Wow, the fall seems to zipping right by. How is it already the third week in October?!?! I feel like each passing week goes by faster than the one before. And as we get ready to enter the holiday season things are only to go even more quickly!

The past few weeks Ryne and I have been busy doing odds and ends around the house. We planted our spring bulbs and did some work in our little yard. We also planted our pansies (which btw, I still find amusing that we actually plant flowers for the winter months!) We have also been sorting through cabinets and closets as we continue to merge our houses and get rid of some of our clutter.

But we have also managed to squeeze in some time for fun! Last weekend we went to the NC State Fair with a good friend. The weather was absolutely perfect! We enjoyed some fair food, saw some animals, and did some great people watching. The only down side was how freaking crowded it was. There were soooo many people there... and I am sure that was because of the weather and also because we went on a Saturday. We are planning to go back this weekend to see some of the events that are going on and perhaps sample a little more fair food!

So while the weeks are zipping by, the weekends go by even faster!!

Hockey!

It's hockey night in Raleigh!! I have been anxiously awaiting the start of hockey season. There is just something about hockey that I love. Growing up in CT my family had season tickets for the Hartford Whalers so I grew up going to games with my dad. I have so many memories of going to games with my dad on super chilly, cold nights. We would cut through buildings to avoid the cold and wind. And we always stopped to pick up special treat before the game. In high school my best friend and I went to many games together (we would sit together and then our dads would sit together). To say we were obsessed with the Whalers is an understatement. When the Whalers moved to North Carolina I was devastated. It was heartbreaking to see the team I loved and cheered for up and move to the south. Little did I know that I would join the Whalers in a few short years and that we would be reunited in Raleigh! I of course got season tickets and it has been so much fun being able to go to games again.

Last season was so bittersweet. The Canes battled back to bring themselves so close to securing a playoff spot. Their playoff destiny came down to the final game of the season. The entire arena was filled with excitement... and it was so loud. Too bad the Canes forgot they had a game to play and just how important it was. They lost... 5-1 (yes, I can still remember the score.. it was that painful). So here's to hoping that the Canes are able to turn things around and have a more successful season this year. I am just so excited that hockey is back!!

TV in a Box

Ryne and I decided to upgrade our TV using some of our wedding money. We figured it was time to jump into the 21st century and join the rest of the world by purchasing a flat screen TV. Yep, we were those people. We were the only two people left in the world who did not have a flat screen.

After doing some research we finally picked out a TV and bought it at Best Buy. We had Geek Squad come out to the house to figure out how to best install the TV (we have one of those giant "tv holes" above our fire place). All was looking well... until we ran into the scheduling nightmare of the Geek Squad. We were told that our TV would be installed within two weeks. Let me just tell you how that went... we purchased the TV on 8/16. It is not 9/28 and the TV is still sitting in a box in our dining room. This scenario makes for two unhappy people.

So today is the day the TV is supposed to be installed and we have already run into some challenges. Despite having an install time block schedule between the hours of 8-12 I just received word that Geek Squad will not be at my house until after 12. Hmm... I believe this falls OUTSIDE of my scheduled time. And I also learned that they broke up the install into two parts yet they never informed us of this decision or change. To say I have been unhappy with Geek Squad is a major understatement. I will not recommend Geek Squad to any of our friends and family.

So keep your fingers crossed that by the end of the day today our new TV actually comes out of the box and and is hanging on the wall!

I only order 25 at first because I wanted to see how they turned out before I order 100+! I absolutely LOVE them!! Now I just need to get to work on writing all of my thank you notes...

Home Alone

Ryne flew back to SD last night to spend two weeks with his dad. This is the first time since the middle of June that we have been apart. It is kind of strange to think that we are back to living apart for a few weeks. But it will be good for him to spend some time with his dad and help out around the house. I am just bummed that I was unable to go on this trip. I told him that he has to take lots of pictures of the buffalo for me so that I can make sure they are all doing well! And while he is out of town I plan to catch up on my TV shows, have dinner with friends, and do some organizing around the house.

The countdown to his return has already begun!

Getting Back in the Swing of Things

Slowly but surely I am getting back into the swing of things. This past summer was the best summer of my life! Our wedding and the the entire wedding weekend was fabulous. Post about those events to come soon! I just got my pictures from the photographer so I am in the process of picking out pictures!! So exciting!

Ryne has now moved in with me and we are slowly settling into married life. So far the biggest challenge has been figuring out where to put all of our stuff. I sure do wish we had a basement!! I am in the process of cleaning out closets and going through cabinets trying to see what I can donate or get rid of. It's amazing how much stuff you can collect over the course of 6 years!

Stay tuned for wedding recaps and all of our other summer adventures... including our cross country drive!
